The return of international table tennis is just a handful of weeks away with the #RESTART series set to see the world’s biggest stars battle it out this November at three of the sport’s most prestigious events: the 2020 ITTF Women’s World Cup, 2020 ITTF Men’s World Cup and 2020 ITTF Finals.
Today, the ITTF can officially confirm the venues for the trio of events. As previously announced, the #RESTART series will be staged in China, with the support of the Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA). The ‘bubble’ approach provides the maximum safety for players and officials amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both the 2020 ITTF Women’s World Cup (8th-10th November) and 2020 ITTF Men’s World Cup (13th-15th November) will be held in Weihai, Shandong province, at the Weihai Nanhai Olympic Center.
The newly opened venue, which fits 4,000 seats, is currently hosting the 2020 China National Table Tennis Championships.
Zhengzhou, Henan province, will host the final ITTF event of the year once again with the 2020 ITTF Finals (19th-22nd November) returning to the Zhengzhou Olympic Sports Center.
The venue, which fits 16,000 seats, staged the highly successful Agricultural Bank of China 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals. For the second year in a row, it will be the setting for the crowning moments of the ITTF calendar.
The ITTF is in discussions with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 2020 ITTF Finals about the possibility of having spectators at the event.
The ITTF and CTTA remain committed to ensuring that the highest safety measures are implemented to protect everyone involved in the events.
