After a difficult period of inaction in the Para Table Tennis realm, we are all set to bring the world to your city!

Today, Monday, 16th November, the International Table Tennis Federation announced the bidding process for the upcoming 2021 ITTF Para events, starting in April next year.

Given the uncertain global situation, the first quarter of the coming year will not be available in the calendar. The decision was taken after long discussion measuring the gravity of the worldwide spread COVID-19 pandemic, and keeping in mind the safety of the athletes.

Ever since the early 1990s, Para players have competed in international tournaments regularly. All such Para events are run with the intention to have the competition comprise of new and also experienced players to challenge themselves and earn international recognition.

In an Executive Committee decision, there will be no Continental Para Table Tennis Championships in 2021. The focus will be to ensure that the 2021-2024 Para Table Tennis calendar can be resumed with proper arrangements after the Paralympics are completed, from 1st October 2021.

However, in good news, after the success of 2019 ITTF Para events worldwide, next year in the sport will consist of six ITTF Factor 40 events and ITTF Factor 20 events. ITTF Factor 40 events will offer players higher world ranking points with better playing conditions and most importantly, greater player exposure.

The year 2021 is set to see the biggest Paralympic Games being played in history, and all ITTF Para events will be essential in the preparation for the big event of the year in Tokyo. It means that the Paralympic World Qualification tournament – which still has 21 undecided slots for the Paralympic Games – will be the hub for athletes vying to reach the pinnacle of the sport.

The Paralympic World Qualification is scheduled to start in April 2021, setting the stage for a year full of exciting and enthralling Para table tennis!

Deadline for bid submission: 27 November 2020.
