After 12 days of thrilling table tennis at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, it’s time for the penultimate day of play as the attention focuses primarily on closing out the Women’s Team gold medal race.
On Wednesday, the first order of the day is deciding which team will stand on the third step of the medals podium and which side will miss out on a medal as Germany and Hong Kong, China takes to the table in an all or nothing affair at 11.00 local time.
Once the dust has settled on the bronze medal contest, the attention turns to the all-important play-off for the gold medal as China meets Japan in a repeat of the London 2012 final at 19.30.
Top seed China has never lost a Women’s Team match on the Olympic stage, whilst Japan looks to win a dream title on home soil. The host nation will collect its third medal on day 13, but which colour will it prove to be?
