The race to host the 2024 World Table Tennis Championships is heating up!
The three candidate cities were first greeted by ITTF Deputy President Mr. Khalil Al Mohannadi, who is responsible for the World Championships portfolio, and by Gabor Felegyi, ITTF interim Competition Director.
Then, they had a chance to showcase their bid during the 2021 ITTF AGM Videoconferences series with 20-minute presentations.
While the Member Associations of Argentina and South Korea put forwards bids from Buenos Aires and Busan respectively, India introduced a multi-city concept including Bhubneshwar and Panchkula for the preliminary rounds and Delhi for the knockout phase.
It has been 34 years since India last welcomed the World Championships, and Argentina never hosted the event. Meanwhile Busan was supposed to be the host for the 2020 event before it was cancelled due to COVID-19.
The host city of the 2024 World Championships will be elected at the ITTF Annual General Meeting, held in Houston, Texas, on 24 November 2021. With strong presentations from all candidate cities, the bidding process has already been hailed a success.
