Following a short break, play at WTT Youth Series events returned, the destination being the northern region of Austria; seven intense days of action, proceedings in Linz concluded today, Tuesday 3rd May.
Most significantly, it was the first time since the outbreak of war that a WTT Youth Series event welcomed players from Ukraine.
Thanks to the support of the ITTF Foundation and the Local Organising Committee, Yehor Borshchevskyi, Sofiia Chumarna, Simon Enskyi, Valeriia Korzun, Veronika Vasylenko, Yuliia and Iryna Yachmienova competed.
All made their presence felt, Iryna Yachmienova very much the player to attract the attention.
She concluded matters the under 11 girls’ singles runner up. At the penultimate stage she accounted for Spain’s Teresa Carraca (11-4, 11-2, 11-4) prior to finding the host nation’s Miriam Meier in unrelenting form, a four games success in favour of the Austrian the outcome (11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6).
Support from the ITTF Foundation the key factor as was the sentiment of goodwill from the hosts, a fact Leandro Olvech, ITTF Foundation Director, appreciated.

The Foundation is working closely with the Ukraine Table Tennis Federation to support initiatives to provide short and longer term solutions for all players – senior and youth – so they can continue their careers. The entire ITTF Group went into action to support the Ukrainian table tennis community and continues monitoring the situation to ensure no one is left behind.
