On Sunday 6th November, play commences at the Andalucia World Para Table Tennis Championships 2022, the clock is ticking, a sense of anticipation pervades in the city of Granada for the most important international sports event hosted this year in Spain.
Participants will start to arrive on Friday 4th November.
Most significantly they will be welcomed in style, wherever you look in Granada, the tournament is publicised whether it be in bus shelters or giant screens that immediately attract the attention.
Additionally, the largest shopping centre in Spain, Nevada Shopping, located in Granada itself, will host a promotional event on Wednesday 2nd November at 6.00 pm; the entire Spanish Para table tennis team will be present.
Overall, 51 countries will be represented, a total of 39 events on the schedule.
Prior to competition starting, a technical meeting involving representatives from the Local Organising Committee, Referees and Team Managers will be held on Saturday 5th November.
Play commences on Sunday 6 November with doubles, the first occasion when such events have been staged at a World Para Championships. A scheduled 152 doubles matches form the itinerary. Overall, 82 standing players plus 70 wheelchair players will compete in events scheduled for the first three days.
The men’s singles and women’s singles competitions will start at 4.00pm on Tuesday 8th November. A total of 315 matches is scheduled, 183 in the standing categories, 132 in the wheelchair categories.
Notably the Andalucia 2022 World Para Championships will be broadcast far and wide, a dedicated website being introduced to follow the action.
Play concludes on Saturday 12th November.
