As the World Championships draw ever closer, an operational delegation has arrived in Durban to join forces with the Local Organising Committee and complete the final preparations for the event.

With less than two weeks before the historic ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals 2023 in Durban, officials and delegates from the ITTF and World Table Tennis have descended upon the city to complete the final preparations.

The ITTF, World Table Tennis and the South African Table Tennis Board are working closer than ever to ensure that everything is in place for a memorable and successful event.

Led by Shaun Nik, World Table Tennis Head of Event and Experience, the delegation has teamed up with the Local Organising Committee to put the finishing touches on the event and ensure all logistical and operational aspects are ready to go.

“We are all thrilled to be in Durban and to work together with the Local Organising Committee to deliver a successful and memorable event,” said Nik. “We have all been working tirelessly to ensure that everything is in place, and we are confident that the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals Durban 2023 will be a huge success.”

The tournament marks a historic moment for table tennis in Africa, as it returns to the continent for the first time in 84 years. The ITTF Group, comprising officials and delegates from the ITTF and World Table Tennis, has raised to the occasion to deliver the event.

“I am very excited to see the fruits of our work in Durban,” said Steve Dainton, ITTF Group CEO. “This is a testament to the professionalism and operational expertise of our teams. We have developed a plug-and-play solution, allowing us to take the best events of our sport to new markets. Durban is a perfect example, but World Table Tennis will also go to Nigeria and Tunisia next month. Our sport is global, and therefore the series of events must be too.”

The ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals Durban 2023 will open on 20 May. The main venue is the Durban International Convention Centre, which will be transformed into a sports arena during the event, with eight competition tables in two halls. With the vibrant and diverse culture of South Africa on display, players and fans can expect a truly unique experience that goes beyond just the game.

The event promises to be a thrilling showcase of table tennis excellence, with top players from around the world vying for the coveted championship title. With the delegation and Local Organising Committee working together, it is poised to be a major success, setting a new standard for table tennis events in Africa and beyond.
