International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach is among the distinguished guests in attendance for the Mixed Doubles gold medal match happening in South Paris Arena. Joined by ITTF President Petra Sörling and IOC Member Ryu Seungmin, President Thomas Bach is witnessing the first gold medal awarded in table tennis at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.


PRK Pull One Back, But China Regain Control

The Mixed Doubles gold medal match is proving to be a thrilling encounter. DPR Korea’s Ri Jong Sik and Kim Kum Yong have responded strongly to the early pressure, winning the second game 11-7 to level the match at 1-1. With session 1 coming to a close, an upset unfolded in the Women’s Singles competition as World No. 168 Pyon Song Gyong defeated 11th seed Nina Mittelham in a thrilling seven-game encounter (6-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7). The match was a dramatic battle, with Mittelham requiring a medical timeout early on. Despite a valiant comeback attempt, Pyon remained composed throughout, showcasing consistent shot-making to secure a historic victory. Both players ended the match with a near-identical point count (PRK: 66, GER: 65). Pyon now advances to the Round of 16, where she will face Adriana Diaz in a highly anticipated matchup.


Bajor Outlasts Fu Yu in Epic Encounter

Nalaia Bajor marches on with a thrilling 4-3 (11-7, 11-8, 15-17, 4-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8) victory over Fu Yu. This win marks Bajor’s first-ever triumph against her opponent, making the achievement even sweeter. The match was a captivating display of resilience. Bajor raced to a 2-0 lead, showcasing her attacking prowess. However, Fu Yu responded fiercely, winning the next three games to put herself on the brink of victory. With nerves of steel, Bajor clawed her way back, securing the final two games in a tense battle. The final point saw Bajor erupt in celebration, overwhelmed with emotion after her historic comeback. Hugo Calderano overcame early challenges to secure a hard-fought 4-2 (7-11, 13-11, 11-9, 11-3, 11-5) victory over Alvaro Robles. The opening game saw Robles capitalize on Calderano’s initial nerves, taking an early lead. However, the Brazilian star quickly regrouped and displayed his exceptional backhand play. Calderano began dictating the pace of the match, finding his rhythm and pouncing on opportunities to attack. His powerful backhand smashes proved too much for Robles to handle, leading Calderano to a dominant 4-1 victory. This win sets up a thrilling Round of 16 encounter between Calderano and French favorite Alexis Lebrun.


Bernadette Szocs Secures Last 16 Spot

Bernadette Szocs has advanced to the Round of 16 after a hard-fought 4-1 victory over Ukraine’s Margaryta Pesotska. The Romanian player faced a stern test from her opponent, who took the opening game 14-12. However, Szocs responded strongly, winning the next four games to secure her place in the next round. She will now face Sofia Polcanova in a highly anticipated clash.


Togami Battles Past Kozul

Shunsuke Togami has secured his place in the Round of 16 after a hard-fought battle against Deni Kozul. The Japanese player found himself trailing 2-1 but displayed impressive resilience to win the next three games and claim a 4-2 victory. Togami will now face Jang Woojin in the next round.


Ovtcharov Cruises into Round of 16

Six-time Olympic medalist Dimitrij Ovtcharov continued his pursuit of a seventh medal with a 4-1 victory over Brazil’s Victor Ishiy. The German legend showcased his experience and skill, comfortably defeating his opponent to advance to the Round of 16.

Chen Meng Takes First Step in Title Defence

Reigning Olympic champion Chen Meng has made a successful start to her title defence, defeating Sweden’s Linda Bergstrom in the Round of 32. The Chinese star faced a stern test from her opponent, who claimed the opening game. However, Chen Meng showcased her champion qualities, winning the next four games to advance to the next round. The world number one will now face ‘Supermom’  Britt Eerland, who has already produced several impressive performances at these Games in what is turning out to be a special Paris 2024 for her.
