The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) extends its warmest congratulations to Kirsty Coventry on her election as President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Ms. Petra Sörling, ITTF President of ITTF and IOC member, stated on behalf of the Federation:
“As a proud International Federation on the Olympic Games Programme, ITTF is committed to strengthening its collaboration with President-elect Kirsty Coventry, supporting the Olympic Movement, and working closely with the IOC to further promote the values of excellence, respect, and friendship through sport.
“We were honoured to witness history as the 144th IOC Session elected the first woman and the first African to lead the Olympic Movement. This milestone reflects the continued evolution of sport towards greater inclusivity and representation on the global stage.
“We also take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to Thomas Bach for his remarkable leadership over the past 12 years, during which he spearheaded Olympic Agenda 2020, introduced the New Norm, and ensured the continued success and evolution of the Olympic Games. His vision and dedication have strengthened the Olympic Movement, fostering closer collaboration with International Federations, as well as driving innovation and inclusivity while navigating unprecedented global challenges.
“Under this new leadership, we look forward to continuing our close partnership with the IOC, further developing table tennis on the Olympic stage, and contributing to the future success of the Games.
“Best wishes to Kirsty Coventry for a successful tenure!”
