Four days of thrilling action in São Paulo, Brazil, saw several Brazilians emerge victorious on their home tables.

Paralympic doubles bronze medalist Joyce de Oliveira (BRA) topped the medal podium in the C1-5 category after she got the better of Alexandra Saint-Pierre (FRA) in a thrilling final (3-2). De Oliveira was unstoppable in São Paulo, adding two more gold medals to her tally with wins in the Women’s Doubles and the Mixed Doubles.

Paired with Catia Oliveira in the Women’s Doubles 5-10, the two once again did not lose any doubles games to claim victory in the W5-10 class. In the mixed, partnering with Carlos Eduardo Freire de Moraes, she topped the standings in the XD10 class. For De Oliveira, it was the second time claiming victory in both doubles events in the Challenger Series following wins in Poland earlier this month.

With gold in the mixed doubles, Eduardo Freire de Moraes claimed his second victory in São Paulo after he grabbed the singles win in the C4-5 class.

Teammate Bruna Alexandre (BRA) also continued winning ways on the W8-10 class. A few weeks after claiming a season first Challenger event victory in Wladyslawowo (POL), Alexandre again proved she’s the one to beat in the singles event. The four-time Paralympian secured victory against compatriot Jennyfer Parinos (BRA).

Other home victories in the singles events included those from Gabriel Antunes de Oliveira in the Men’s C10 and Paulo Salmin in the Men’s C7-8.

Cepas, Torres and Van Emburgh Victorious

Paris 2024 bronze medalist Ander Cepas from Spain showed a top-class level of play in the Men’s C9 event, beating home favorite Lucas dos Santos Carvalho (BRA) 3-0 in the final, while Ignacio Torres (CHI) landed on top in the Men’s C6 category.

Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Jenson van Emburgh (USA) grabbed gold in the Men’s C3 event after he beat Welder Camargo Knaf (BRA) in the final. Van Emburgh then teamed up with Alan Zachary Pickett (USA) to claim victory in the Men’s Doubles 4-8 class.

The Challenger event in São Paulo was the first of three Para-events taking place in the Brazillian city in 2025, with the ITTF World Para Elite and ITTF Pan American Para Championships to follow in October this year.
